Why Have a Website?

A website is your business’s 24 hour marketing tool. You receive global exposure at a minimal cost. With a website your company can offer your products or services to anyone at anytime.

Do I need a web developer or a web designer?

A Web Developer is someone who designs web pages, but also programs the pages, sets up the hosting, secures them and launches everything onto the internet.

A Web Designer is a graphic layout person who is in charge of the look of the website.  Web design plus web development plus search engine marketing will help you reach your target audience.

What should I look for in a Website Development company?

    • Expertise

What expertise is offered by the developer?  Can they do HTML?  Or can they do CMS (Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, etc…)?  It’s very important that the developer’s expertise is a close match to what you are looking for in your website.

        • Price

Prices for website design vary ENORMOUSLY across the web, from little guys offering from $150 up to big guys with bells and whistles to $6,000.  Also some firms charge annually, and some offer a one-off fee.  The first step in making sure you know exactly what you want – how many pages, forms, flash, or other features, so you can actually compare apples with apples.  The next step is to work out a budget that you can afford.  In web design, you usually pay for what you get, so it’s best not to go too cheap.  It’s better to focus on who offers the best value – without compromising on quality.

Lots of people have web design skills now.  Can we just use a graduate who has these skills?

This is a common scenario we are presented with.  Our answer is that design skills are only a very small part of website development. Would you let a trainee house-builder who has just finished their apprenticeship manage and build your house?

Probably not, you would probably look for an experienced house builder with a great team, that can cover all the work that needs to be done.

It is no good having a “nicely designed” cheap site if it does not attract visitors, and achieve the goals that the website wants to achieve.

How much does a web site cost?

There are a few factors that affect the ultimate cost of your web site:

          • how many pages you are going to have – how big the site will be
          • if you will sell products on your website
          • Number of customised widgets
          • the graphic work involved (possible Flash or jQuery)
          • how interactive your website will be (blogs, gallery, contact forms)
          • web hosting and/or domain name registration

Prices for Abnormal Marketing web design services start from A$2,990

Once I have the basic website, can I add features?

Of course, if you have the basic website and would like to add flash, photos, video or a shopping cart, we can tailor our services to improve your website in the future.

Do I need to hire a “local” website designer?

We create websites for clients who are local as well as around the world. By using the Internet, email and the telephone, it is possible to communicate effectively with clients in any location.

How long would it take to build a website?

A basic site would be completed within four weeks from the order being received.  The time of completion quite often depends on the time it takes to develop graphics, and receive content and feedback from the client.

Once the site is up and running, what do I have to do to maintain it?

The site needs to be marketed on an ongoing basis.  Fresh information also needs to be put into the site to keep it up to date and interesting.  You can do this yourself if Teoka Lodge has the resources available in-house, or we would be delighted to be of assistance.

What Is The Web Design Process?

Each website we create is unique, but the process remains the same:

          1. Analyse

Every business is different and we approach each job differently. Firstly we take time to talk with you, analyse your needs and understand your goals

          2. Strategy

We work with you to build a strategy that takes the best your company has to offer and integrates it into your website design.

          3. Design

Once the design process begins, you may be involved as much or as little as you would like. We may begin with something as simple as a logo, if one is needed. Eventually, you will have the opportunity to approve a full site design. Modifications can be made at any point in the process. Our goal is your satisfaction.

          4. Develop

With strong strategies in place, and an approved design, we’re now ready to start the development phase. During this phase all of the programming is written and online stores are setup, if required. Now, content can be added to your pages and products to your store.

          5. Test

Your completed website is now ready for testing. We look for any potential problems which may keep your site from functioning to its maximum potential.

          6. Implement

Once everything has been approved, your website is ready to be launched!

          What is a URL?

It stands for “universal resource locator”. This is the address typed in to view your web page on the Internet.

          What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is a specific website address that you choose and register online.

          What is Website Hosting?

Web hosting is a monthly or annual fee that you pay to have your site accessible on the Internet. We can help set up web hosting for our clients.

Can I choose you to design my site and use my own web hosting?

Yes, you can use any web host you like. Once your website has been completed you will have to provide us with your web hosting FTP login username as password so that we can upload your website for you.

          What’s Ecommerce?

Ecommerce is simply the term given to purchasing products or services over the Internet.

          What’s a Link?

A (hyper)link is text on a web page that, when clicked on, takes you to another page or website.

          What’s a Search Engine?

A search engine is a computer that reviews (and ranks in an order) the content of websites.  If a person enters ‘golf’ into a search engine, that person will be shown a list of sites to visit that contain the word golf.  As an example, Yahoo! (the most popular search engine on the Internet) has 3,030,000 Web pages to choose from when ‘golf’ is searched for.

Why can’t I find my Website in the Search Engines?

Once your site has been submitted to the top Search Engines they may require several weeks, or even months to actually spider and list your web site in their directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual Search Engines database update schedule. Watch your server traffic logs for visiting spiders.

Website Content – What Do I Put On My Site?

That would depend on the goals of your web site. If you run a business website you would include as much information about your products or services that your customers would need to purchase from you.

Will the Internet continue to Grow?

All indications are that the Internet will continue to grow.  Most day to day activities can now be completed on the Internet.  Increasing ease of use, reducing costs and technological advances will aid the continued growth.

Is it important to get people to return to the Website?  If yes, how?

It is vital to have people return to the site again and again.  Research indicates that people will feel more comfortable with your company and purchase products/ services only after seven visits.

To have people return to the site we have to reward them.  We have built-in some strategies to the proposed site that will aid repeat visiting.  Other possibilities include:

          • Interesting information regularly updated such as industry related articles, tips as said, etc.
          • Links page containing links that appeal to the target market – once visitors know it is available they can return to the site to access the links easily.

How do people find out about Websites?

          1.    90% from links from other sites

          2.    85% from search engines

          3.    65% Word of mouth

          4.    64% from magazines and newspapers

How do we let people know about the Website?

As indicated in the above figures, effective marketing of a website is achieved utilizing a variety of techniques.  These include:

          • Links – being linked to a site that has a lot of, and/or related, visitors can attract visitors over to your site.  Examples of the reciprocal links we will try to establish are with:  Suppliers, Clients, Sites of interest
          • Search Engine Submission – up to 85% of all Websites are found on a search engine.
          • Structure of the site – the text and meta tags (meta tags are special areas hidden within a site that hold key words that search engines find) should hold all words that are relevant for your site.
          • Off-line advertising – advertising of the site, placing the Website address on all business literature, using a ‘postcard’ mail out strategy, etc.
