Google Plus launched a few months ago as a potential rival for Facebook as a social network. Some businesses jumped straight on and set up profiles, only to find Google deleting them. Google then explained that pages specifically for businesses and brands was in the works! So this was an expected move by Google Plus, and many said this would happen by November/ December 2011. And now they have arrived!
Google Plus Business Pages are the Facebook equivalent of Business Fan Pages. Like the personal profiles, you will have a stream of activity, and be able to host photo albums, and videos. Here is what Google says about the new pages:
For businesses and brands, Google+ pages help you connect with the customers and fans who love you. Not only can they recommend you with a +1, or add you to a circle to listen long-term. They can actually spend time with your team, face-to-face-to-face. All you need to do is start sharing, and you’ll soon find the super fans and loyal customers that want to say hello.
Whether this becomes a real rival for Facebook Pages depends on the users, of course. And it will be interesting to see if this new move by Google, has more Facebookers moving across.
Once your business or brand has a page, here’s what Google suggests you can do:
- Start a Conversation – start sharing photos, videos, links and other interesting content
- Connect your website – place the Google+ badge or a small code snippet on your site
- Tell the world – you can share a specific link to your page to share with all your networks
- Build your circles – once people have added your page to their circles, you can add them back
- Google+ Direct Connect - lets you quickly navigate to a Google+ page (and even add that page to your circles) when using Google Search (this one is still in beta and not available to everyone yet!)
- Hangouts – connect directly with your community via live video chats that can put you face to face with up to 9 people at once
- +1 Button – can be added to your website so that users can recommend your content on Google Search and share it on Google+

So what do you think of Google Plus Pages? Will this really become a great alternative to Facebook Pages?

This is an exciting development. For the search engine FindFiles.net we have created our corporate G+ page:

It will be interesting to see how these brand pages will work out.

The main problem we have is you can only have one registered user – As a platform for a company brand, having only one registered user for a company page is very limiting. For a large company with a number of employees using social media channels they would all need access to the personal profile the page was created with – not ideal.
We have highlighted other problems in our post:

Google+ Pages for Business Released!
The long expected Google+ Pages for Business have just been released, but with a disappointing outcome!
The scarce features are no match for the current features offered by Facebook pages. The only innovation they brought is the Google+ Direct Connect.
