I came across a great tip today from our LinkedIn AM Group Member – Lynn Ruby, who was kind enough to point out a recent change in LinkedIn’s Privacy Policy that effects EVERYBODY.
It’s funny, that when the social networks change their privacy policies they don’t explain very clearly what the real effects are on the users. And from this recent change, it is clear that sometimes social networks adjust their policies in their own favour!
The Change in A Nutshell
LinkedIn can use your name and photo in third-party advertising, WITHOUT asking you.
Ouch!
I know.
It was prickly news to me too. But here’s how to fix it, thanks to Lynn…
Fix Your Social Advertising Privacy Settings
1. Scroll over you name on your LinkedIn homepage (upper right corner). On the drop-down menu, select “Settings”.
2. From the “Settings” page, select “Account”. (lower left corner)
3. In the column next to “Account”, click “Manage Social Advertising” .
4. De-select the box next to “LinkedIn may use my name, photo in social advertising”.
5. Click Save.
What do you think of the social networks privacy settings? Can they even be taken seriously? Or are we getting what we pay for – - – - because it’s free?

Linkedln is not good, facebook is better!
I’m still not a big fans of LinkedIn. Don’t know why.

I agree that it’s definitely shocking when social networks make these privacy changes without really giving notice or explaining anything. But then again, you do get what you pay for. At least LinkedIn gives users the opportunity to opt-out…!
