A Book Review – The Energy Book For Life
So what does energy have to do with business and marketing? You may be surprised to hear my answer – “Everything!”
In business, it is the energy we put into our actions everyday that propel us forward. Or sometimes the lack of energy that holds us back. If you can tap into your energy, and really understand what drives you, the opportunities for your business can suddenly appear.
Joan Small understands energy. She has made the study of energy part of her life, and she knows what she is talking about. Or in this case, what she is writing about.
It is called “The Guidebook to Energized Living“, and it truly is. Like any book that is written to inspire, influence and create a pressure for positive change, it had to be carefully considered in its creation. But somehow Joan has hit a home run, taking ideas from interviewing a range of amazing people, including Aussie singer Kate Ceberano.
The book also has a healthy balance of engaging stories, helpful tips and just a couple of exercises, to really challenge the reader.
When it comes to energy, awareness is key, and once you take a moment and look inside yourself, and tap into what motivates and excites you, you will be able to tap into it every time you need to.
For an idea on what you might find when you read Joan’s book, here are the main headings:
- What Creates Energy and How Can You Have More?
- The Energy Journey
- What Does Energy Mean To Others?
- The Complete Lists
- What Is This Thing Called Energy?
- The Body’s Chemical Energizers
- Energizers and DeEnergizers
- The Benefits of Energy

- Spiritual Energy And Uniqueness
- Overcoming Addictions
- Mind Energy
I highly recommend Joan’s book for everybody looking to increase or re-discover the energy inside them.
Energy is really what we need for business, creativity and promoting our business. When we are energized we are more enthusiastic about our business, and towards our customers.
So I cannot help but ask – What Energizes You?

For me energy equals motivation. When I see something I like, I get motivated and energized to work more and better to be able to afford it. Family harmony is also important for me, it just fills me up with peace. Friends and spending time with friends in the city also has great effects on my energy. We interact positively most of the time. these are the things that give me energy.

Thanks Alfa fan, for sharing your thoughts on what motivates you. Different things motivate different people, and I think once you tap into what does it for you, you can take yourself to a more productive level.
Hi Alfa, Thanks for your great comment to Fiona’s review of my book, ‘The Energy Book For Life’. Certainly family and friends are motivating (if they are supportive and uplifting). There are examples in my book of negative people having the opposite effect. In fact most people said what ‘de-energized’ them was negativity or negative people. I agree with you – seeing what you like is great too. We don’t even need to ‘own’ something to appreciate it. Live with Energy, Joan
Well to tell you the truth, the level of someone’s energy determines someone’s performance. Thanks for sharing this too.

Hey Andrew, Certainly energy determines performance. Performance is also enhanced by enjoyment, and this is the type of energy I have written about in ‘The Energy Book For Life’ – how to get more enjoyment (the French call it ‘Joie de Vivre’ out of life.
Of course high performance produces its own rewards and feeling of satisfaction. It’s cyclic, the more enjoyment, the greater the success in life, and the greater the success the more we are energized. Live with energy, Joan
Energy is vital for work right? Having low energy level means having low performance. It applicable both manual and office work. And its also applicable to people working online. If you are low in energy the result will eventually not good. Try to imagine a sales person who demonstrate his/her product with out any energy. Its like hearing zombie talking.

Hi Jessica, I loved your comment, which added to Andrew’s. I agree, we need to be energized to effectively communicate online. Despite the frustrations that can arise with the internet – and the sometimes overwhelm – I love how it opens up our world and allows us to share ideas and communicate with people globally on all manner of things. There are some strategies to keep us energized online as well as offline which I mention in ‘The Energy Book for Life’. With salespeople, I am reminded of an old book by a guy called Charlie Tremendous Jones – called ‘Life Is Tremendous – Enthusiasm Makes The Difference’. Although Charlie died in 2008 his book is still available through Amazon (used copies). Live with Energy, Joan
It seems like reading Joan’s book is my ticket to finding the energy that has been eluding me lately. I’m most interested to read about her take on Mind Energy. I’ve been sick the past couple of weeks, and combine that with unexpected extra work load, I’m now drained both physically and emotionally. I usually get energized when I hear positive feedback about my work and wonderful personal stories from people I’m close too. Shopping does wonders too, unfortunately, my wallet has to be energized first for that to happen.
Hi Darla, I’m so happy you enjoyed Fiona’s review on ‘The Energy Book For Life – The Guidebook To Energized Living’ and I would love for you to own a copy. It is when we are feeling down and de-energized that we most need to read something like this to get us back on track again. That’s why I wrote it. My most energizing thing is to be able to help people have more happiness and joy, and to be energized on a daily basis – to have the tools and strategies to bounce back, no matter what is going on. I will welcome your personal email from my site if you wish to communicate with me. Live with energy, Joan PS I hope your wallet is re-energized soon too.
if you love you’re work you will have high energy! may i recommend “48 days to the work you love”?
