Facebook is the new country, where millions of people play, share and work. The days of being a social network for college students is long gone. How well do you understand the opportunities in this new country? How prepared are you to build your presence and business in Facebook in the right way?
Well, since so many businesses have been asking, we have created the perfect product to solve that problem. And it’s finally here. The launch of Facebook eMarketing Business Video Training Course.
Old Marketing Is In Decline
More and more businesses are turning to online marketing, since they are “not quite sure” if the $15,000 they are spending on Yellow Pages each year is still generating the new business it used to. The world is a changed place, mainly due to the technology revolution, and the increased time we are all spending on our PCs and laptops surfing the internet.
And when you think for a minute about traditional media for advertising you will realise:
- TV ads are being muted or skipped
- We’ve stopped buying newspapers
- Junk and Direct Mail tend to go straight in the bin
- We’re even reading less magazines
As our lives are changing and we are spending so much more time online, so should our marketing efforts be directed in that area too.
Facebook as Social Media Marketing
Facebook is the new powertool of online marketing. The statistics and influence of Facebook on our lives cannot be ignored. Even if you already have a Facebook account, and you think you know what Facebook really is, when you take a step back and analyse it from your business point-of-view, you may realise you don’t know much at all.
Facebook is not just your personal profile, although that’s probably where you spend all your time. Facebook is:
- Business Pages
- Groups
- Ads (PPC, PPM)
- Apps (Applications)
- Stats
- Events
- Questions
- Photos
- Videos
- iFrames
- and so much more…
To help business owners and marketers get their heads around exactly how they should tackle Facebook, we have developed our own video training course for setting up your business properly on Facebook.
FB eMarketing: The Ultimate Starting Guide for Business
This course will help you set up and get started. The course is comprised of:
- Over 3 hours of MP4 instructional video training - equivalent of one full day consulting and training in your place of business.
- A PDF 29 Page Workbook – with exercises and questions to help you along the way
- A PDF 130 Page Transcriptions Book - detailing every word spoken in the training course. You can use this to follow along, or as a reference to turn back to after you have finished with the videos.
The aim of the course to is give you the best and simplest start to using Facebook for Business. Too many experts just point you to focus on a “Business Page”, but really just focusing on the business page, and not looking at the other areas is not the best approach.

In Summary
Facebook is not a direct sales channel. It’s not a place where every post you make or every connection you attempt screams “Look at me! Look at me!” Facebook is more a “helping” channel, and a place to grow relationships with new potential customers, and to show your current customers the benefits of continuing to do business with you… but in a social way.
Social networking is a skill that must be learned and mastered if you are going to grow your business with social media channels like Facebook.
Have you been using Facebook successfully and driving in more enquiries and sales? Or are you struggling to get your mind around it?

Excellent article Fiona. Facebook offers another avenue of marketing for small business owners and young entrepreneurs and I love it for that. I will say however that based on my personal experience in marketing, Facebook has a long way to go before it will generate the same returns I see from “old school” marketing campaigns via billboard, radio and TV. Note… I do very well with our Facebook marketing campaigns, but the reality is that not everyone is there yet and not everyone that is there is listening. Same as every other marketing medium.
As time goes on and Facebook matures I will imagine they will tackle the task of generating a better ROI for it’s marketers. If it fails to do that, the wheels on that bus might slow down much faster then we think.

@Extreme John, Thanks John,
Yes, Facebook really does need to play a huge part in the online marketing mix for small businesses. It’s interesting that you mention better returns from billboards/ radio/ tv, but I have seen, if the $3,000 for a radio ad, or $30,000 for a billboard in a good location, was spent on online marketing (including Facebook), the results can be much better and much more permanent.
Because after the billboard is taken down, it’s gone, but investment on online activities can almost last forever.
And yes, Facebook will be interesting to watch and keep up with as it matures. But businesses really need to set up now!

Can’t extend nearly enough kudos for this one, Fiona!
Couldn’t agree with you more — old school marketing strategies just aren’t working any longer. Telephone book ads are ridiculously priced and they don’t give you much of a ROI, if any return at all! Some direct mail pieces can be effective (if the copywriting is top notch and the offer is enticing enough) but, once again, the expense is enormous.
Every small business owner and online marketer needs to know ALL the aspects of utilizing Facebook as a viable social media venue to grow their businesses.
It’s time to stop throwing mud against the wall and see what sticks. Your course sounds fabulous and knowing you the way I do, I’m sure it’s going to help lots and lots of people to get a much better grip on how to use Facebook — the RIGHT way.
Congratulations! You have my support.

@Melanie Kissell @SoloMompreneur, Thank you Melanie,
I appreciate your support, and it’s wonderful to hear that the power of including Facebook in a marketing strategy is such a well-received idea.
I was talking to a mechanic last week, and I asked him how his marketing was going and if he still invested in Yellow Pages. He told me his ad did cost $15,000 each year, and he really didn’t know how many customers were coming from that ad.
I know in the past, businesses phones rang, and customers started with “I just saw your ad in Yellow Pages…”, but now those phonecalls have all but disappeared.
The problem is, businesses don’t know the best place to spend that $15,000 so that they can get the returns they used to with Yellow Pages.
Welcome to the era of online marketing! Which now should take up at least 50% of business marketing budgets!

I agree with you 100% — online marketing should comprise at least 50% of the marketing budget.
But here’s part of the challenge in working with small biz owners …
If was like pulling teeth (no exaggeration) to get the administrator at the doctor’s office where I work to “cut back” 30% on telephone book advertising. Now that half the year is almost over … I have my doubts I’m going to reach my goal there for 2011 … to cut out ALL the telephone book ads. I personally don’t know anyone who even uses a phone book anymore with the exception of my 84-yr-old mum — and that’s only because she doesn’t own a computer.
Once again, wishing you tremendous success with your brand new Facebook training course!!

Hi
I am interested in your book. I really (honestly) don’t know much about FB. I don’t know what applications are, I don’t know how to make a page where people cannot write on my wall but I can sell my courses, etc. Would this book work?
Please let me know!
Thank you.

These days Facebook and Twitter have become two crucial tools in online marketing world. I know it’s too late for the special price, but the FB Emarketing sounds good to me. Facebook and twitter are the future of marketing. I like the way Facbeook Ads work and the amount of selections one can make and target a specific gender/age group. I have found reasonable success with fb ads although the cost of advertising seem to vary with country.
