After Oprah joined Twitter, it all became quiet on the goss of the interesting celebrities and famous people using Twitter to share their thoughts and lives in 140 character lots.
Twitter has made some uncommon celebrities popular (I’ll try not to mention Ashton Kutcher), and not the usual celebrities are quite entertaining on Twitter.
From a marketing point of view, twitter is an excellent way to engage fans and followers, not just for actors, but for professionals and small businesses as well. But you don’t just sign up for twitter, start tweeting and everything is perfect. You have to keep a careful balance of sharing and listening, and most importantly – being real. And actors must deal with the real challenge of this – to tweet themselves or hire a tweeter. I really don’t like hired tweeters, which is why I unfollowed Tom Cruise.
Here are my Top 10 Interesting Actors to follow on Twitter, who appear to tweet themselves, in no particular order. Some are verified, some are not:
Danny Trejo – Bad boy actor – my favourite role is in Bubble Boy (very funny). Quirky tweets – could be real?
2.
@GaryJBusey
Gary Busey – great actor with some very funny tweets – films include Point Break, Predator 2, and Lethal Weapon.
3.
@JohnCleese
John Cleese – this is a classic English black comedy actor that needs little introduction – engaging, and always honest
4.
@ThatKevinSmith
Kevin Smith – sometimes a director, and sometimes a very funny actor – always entertaining, never dull
5.
@GarySinise
Gary Sinise – talented film and tv actor, from Forest Gump, to Apollo 13, to CSI:NY – funny tweets and genuine interaction
Jeremy Piven – another talented film star from The Family Man, to Seredipity, to Rush Hour 2 – doesn’t tweet as much as he should, but still entertaining to follow.
Mickey Rourke – The latest star of Iron Man 2 is authentic and funny in his occasional twerbs.
Danny DeVito – actor, director and producer with bizarre sense of humour and a preference for his feet…
9.
@1capplegate
Christina Applegate – Film and TV star Christina is a frequent tweeter who is great to follow (see Don’t tell mum the babysitters dead, and Anchorman)
10.
@tomhanks
Tom Hanks – a true acting legend who really doesn’t need an introduction – he tweets nearly every day – great guy
11.
@NiaVardalos
Nia Vardalos – Great comedic actress from the hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding, tweets often and true to herself
12.
@maclaineshirley
Shirley MacLaine – a fantastic spiritual woman and talented actor – she may even be tweeting herself….

What a cool “Star-gazing” post!
I’m not following any actors or actresses on Twitter. I think the reason is that my biggest suspicion is that they’re hiring an assistant to Tweet for them – I prefer REAL interaction. However, by what you’ve observed, maybe some of these celebrities are actually representing themselves on Twitter.
I’ve always enjoyed every project Tom Hanks has associated himself with and I’ve always been fascinated by Shirley Maclaine.
Creative post!

@Melanie Kissell, Hi Melanie, glad you enjoyed the post
I only recented started re-following actors on twitter, but I’m being more selective. Quite a few have those impersonal “hired” tweeters, and they just cant replicate the same experience as following a real person.
When I was putting this post together, I was pleasantly surprised at who I found.
