We hear everywhere about this blog concept today, we see on TV when they finish the news they say “Read our blogs and comment below”. We go out with friends and we hear from them: “I did a blog today” or “I read a very interesting blog last night”. All this buzz is making us realize how important blogging is when you want to say something to the world.
The fun part is that is not only about writing content, but you can create videos and podcasts. People read your ideas and they comment on them, and after they share them with others. You can be a celebrity anytime with just a few writing skills and something to tell to the world.
If you are on the verge of choosing a free blog platform to begin with, you may consider the list below:
Blogger (http://www.blogger.com)
Blogger is one of the oldest blogging platforms created by Pyra Labs in August 1999, and sold to Google in 2003. Is a very easy to use platform and offers many widgets to help you blog better.
WordPress (http://www.wordpress.com)
Wordpress is probably the most famous platform out there today. The service is provided from Automattic , the same guys that own WordPress.org and Gravatar.com.
This provider has some limitations when it comes to theme design, but other than that everything is good.
Google Sites (http://sites.google.com)
This service offered from Google as part of Google Apps. The original platform was created from Jotspot, and bought from Google in october 2006.
Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com)
Tumblr is in my opinion the coolest blog platforms in the market. Is very Apple oriented and has a lot of features. You can post text, images, videos, links and audio formats. You can also click like to others blog, and interact with other bloggers in your field.
LiveJournal (http://www.livejournal.com)
This blog platform is as old as Blogger, and has been around since April 1999. But is much updated than Blogger. Between Blogger and LiveJournal, I choose LiveJournal.

You can’t beat WordPress. With all of the free themes and plugins available, you have complete flexibility!
I agree with you @sue, wordpress is great, thats why is so popular, but I believe that Tumblr is good too, I suggest to go in Tumblr website for having a look.
Thanks for posting this! Great information!
